اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّی لَکَ صُمْتُ وَبِکَ اٰمَنْتُ وَعَلَيْکَ تَوَکَّلْتُ وَعَلٰی رِزْقِکَ اَفْطَرْتُ
O Allah! I fasted for you and I believe in you and I put my trust in You and I break my fast with your sustenance.
What is the Significance of the Iftar Dua?
The iftar dua is a short prayer that is recited after breaking the fast in Ramadan. It is said once a person has taken the first sip of water or first bite of food.
This prayer comes from Sunan Abi Dawud 2358. It says that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ used to say this dua after completing the fast for the day. The iftar dua expresses thanks to Allah for giving the strength to fast and for providing food and drink.
It also reminds Muslims that fasting is done for Allah and that every blessing comes from Him. This moment helps Muslims feel closer to Allah and reminds them that fasting and its reward come only from Him.
