حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ يَخْطُبُ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْهَى عَنْ هَذِهِ الْقُصَّةِ وَيَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا هَلَكَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَهَا نِسَاؤُهُمْ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رُوِيَ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهٍ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ.

Narrated Humaid bin 'Abdur-Rahman: that he heard Mu'awiyah giving a Khutbah in Al-Madinah, and saying: Where are your scholars, O people of Al-Madinah? [Indeed] I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbidding from these locks (of hair), and saying: 'The Children of Isra'il were only ruined when their women used them.'
