حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، قَال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ يُحَدِّثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَابَاهُ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا قَالَ اللَّهُ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْ تَقْصُرُوا مِنَ الصَّلاةِ إِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَنْ يَفْتِنَكُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا سورة النساء آية 101، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ أَمِنَ النَّاسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ عُمَرُ:‏‏‏‏ عَجِبْتُ مِمَّا عَجِبْتَ مِنْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ صَدَقَةٌ تَصَدَّقَ اللَّهُ بِهَا عَلَيْكُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَاقْبَلُوا صَدَقَتَهُ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Narrated Ya'la bin Umayyah: I said to 'Umar [bin Al-Khattab]: 'Allah said: That you shorten the Salat if you fear and the people are safe (4:101).' So 'Umar said: 'I wondered about that just as you have wondered. So I mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he said: It is charity which Allah has given to you, so accept His charity.
