حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ وَالَّذِينَ يَكْنِزُونَ الذَّهَبَ وَالْفِضَّةَ سورة التوبة آية 34 قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِهِ:‏‏‏‏ أُنْزِلَ فِي الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ مَا أُنْزِلَ لَوْ عَلِمْنَا أَيُّ الْمَالِ خَيْرٌ فَنَتَّخِذَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَفْضَلُهُ لِسَانٌ ذَاكِرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَلْبٌ شَاكِرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَزَوْجَةٌ مُؤْمِنَةٌ تُعِينُهُ عَلَى إِيمَانِهِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ سَأَلْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ إِسْمَاعِيل، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ سَالِمُ بْنُ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ سَمِعَ مِنْ ثَوْبَانَ ؟ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ لَهُ مِمَّنْ سَمِعَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعَ مِنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَذَكَرَ غَيْرَ وَاحِدٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.

Narrated Thawban: When (the following) was revealed: And those who hoard up gold and silver... (9:34) He said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) during one of his journeys, so some of his Companions said: (This) has been revealed about gold and silver, if we knew which wealth was better then we would use it. So he (ﷺ) said: 'The most virtuous of it is a remembering tongue, a grateful heart, and a believing wife that helps him with his faith.'
