حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِسْحَاق الْجَوْهَرِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَيْدٍ صَاحِبُ الْهَرَوِيِّ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، قَال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ الشَّعْبِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي جَبِيرَةَ بْنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ مِنَّا يَكُونَ لَهُ الِاسْمَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةُ فَيُدْعَى بِبَعْضِهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَعَسَى أَنْ يَكْرَهَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ:‏‏‏‏ وَلا تَنَابَزُوا بِالأَلْقَابِ سورة الحجرات آية 11 . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَبُو جَبِيرَةَ هُوَ أَخُو ثَابِتِ بْنِ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ خَلِيفَةَ أَنْصَارِيٌّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو زَيْدٍ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ صَاحِبُ الْهَرَوِيِّ بَصْرِيٌّ ثِقَةٌ.

Narrated Abu Jubairah bin Ad-Dahhak: A man among us would be known by two or three names. He would be called by one that perhaps he disliked, so this Ayah was revealed: Nor insult with nicknames (49:11).
