حَدَّثَنَا خَلَّادُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَوْفٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ هِنْدٍ الْجَمَلِيِّ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ:‏‏‏‏ كُنْتُ إِذَا سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْطَانِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا سَكَتُّ ابْتَدَأَنِي . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ.

Narrated 'Ali: When I would ask the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), he would give me, and when I would be silent, he would initiate (speech or giving) with me.
