أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَابِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَدِمْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَرْبَعٍ مَضَيْنَ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ أَحِلُّوا وَاجْعَلُوهَا عُمْرَةً ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَضَاقَتْ بِذَلِكَ صُدُورُنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَبُرَ عَلَيْنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَحِلُّوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَوْلَا الْهَدْيُ الَّذِي مَعِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَفَعَلْتُ مِثْلَ الَّذِي تَفْعَلُونَ ،‏‏‏‏ فَأَحْلَلْنَا حَتَّى وَطِئْنَا النِّسَاءَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَفَعَلْنَا مَا يَفْعَلُ الْحَلَالُ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ التَّرْوِيَةِ وَجَعَلْنَا مَكَّةَ بِظَهْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَبَّيْنَا بِالْحَجِّ.

It was narrated that Jabir said: We came with the Messenger of Allah on the fourth day of Dhul-Hijjah. The prophet said: 'Exit Ihram and make it Umrah.' We were distressed and upset by that. News of that reached the Messenger of Allah and he said: 'O people, exit Ihram. Were if not for the Hadi that I brought with me, I would have done what you are doing.' So we exited Ihram, and had intercourse with our wives, ad we did everything that the non-Muhrim does until the day of At-Tarwiyah, when we put Makkah behind us (When we headed for Mina) and entered Ihram for Hajj.
