حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ رَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ بِلَالِ بْنِ يَحْيَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ حُذَيْفَةُإِذَا مَاتَ لَهُ الْمَيِّتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تُؤْذِنُوا بِهِ أَحَدًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ نَعْيًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأُذُنَيَّ هَاتَيْنِ:‏‏‏‏ يَنْهَى عَنِ النَّعْيِ .

It was narrated that Bilal bin Yahya said: “If one of the members of his family died, Hudhaifah would say: ‘Do not inform anyone of it, for I am afraid that that would be a public death announcement. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) with these two ears of mine forbidding making public death announcements.’”
