حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَقِيلٍ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِيرَبِيعَةُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ،‏‏‏‏ وَعَطِيَّةُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ السَّعْدِيِّ،‏‏‏‏ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يَبْلُغُ الْعَبْدُ أَنْ يَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ،‏‏‏‏ حَتَّى يَدَعَ مَا لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ حَذَرًا لِمَا بِهِ الْبَأْسُ .

It was narrated from ‘Atiyyah As-Sa’di, who was one of the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ), that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “A person will not reach the status of being one of those who have piety until he refrains from doing something in which there is no sin, for fear of falling into something in which there is sin.”
