Surah Duha

Surah Duha means "The Morning Brightness." It is one of the most personal, tender, and emotionally powerful Surahs in the entire Quran. This Surah is essentially Allah speaking directly to His Prophet ﷺ with love, reassurance, and comfort. And through him, to every believer who has ever felt forgotten, lost, or alone.

The Background of Its Revelation

It is a Makki Surah, revealed in Makkah during the early period of prophethood. It was revealed at a moment when the Prophet ﷺ was going through something very painful. For a period of time, the revelation had stopped completely.

The Prophet ﷺ waited and became very distressed. The Quraysh began to mock him, saying his Lord had abandoned him and left him. It was when Allah revealed Surah Ad-Duha to reassure His Prophet.

Jundub ibn Sufyan (RA) narrated:

"The Prophet ﷺ was ill and did not get up for a night or two. A woman came and said, "O Muhammad, I think your Shaytaan has left you." Then Allah revealed Surah Ad-Duha." (Sahih Bukhari, 4950)

It is also significant because it establishes a principle that silence from Allah is never abandonment. The pause in revelation was not rejection. Sometimes Allah is quiet because He is preparing something better.

It is one of the most recommended Surahs to turn to during moments of depression, loneliness, feeling forgotten, or going through a long period where nothing seems to be moving forward.
