حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ قُرَّةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْالزُّهْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ حَذْفُ السَّلَامِ سُنَّةٌ . قَالَ عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ نَهَانِي ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ رَفْعِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ. قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْت أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ عِيسَى بْنَ يُونُسَ الْفَاخُورِيَّ الرَّمْلِيَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَمَّا رَجَعَ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ مِنْ مَكَّةَ تَرَكَ رَفْعَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَهَاهُ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ عَنْ رَفْعِهِ.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Shortening the salutation is sunnah (commendable). The narrator 'Isa said: Ibn al-Mubarak prohibited me from reporting this tradition as a statement of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. Abu Dawud said: I heard Abu Umar 'Isa bin Yunus al-Fakhuri al-Ramil saying: When al-Firyabi returned from Makkah, he gave up narrating this tradition as a statement of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. He said: Ahmad bin Hanbal forbade to report this tradition directly from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم.
