حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يُحَدِّثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَّهُ خَطَبَ يَوْمًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَذَكَرَ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ قُبِضَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكُفِّنَ فِي كَفَنٍ غَيْرِ طَائِلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقُبِرَ لَيْلًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَزَجَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُقْبَرَ الرَّجُلُ بِاللَّيْلِ. حتَّى يُصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِلَّا أَنْ يَضْطَرَّ إِنْسَانٌ إِلَى ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا كَفَّنَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلْيُحْسِنْ كَفَنَهُ .

Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم made a speech one day and mentioned a man from among his Companions who died and was shrouded in a shroud of bad quality, and was buried at night. The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم rebuked that man be buried at night until prayer was offered over him, except that a man was forced to do that. The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: When one of you shrouds his brother, he should use a shroud of good quality.
